Introduction

Hello, and Welcome to “This is a Blog”!
My name is Alaina Williams and I have taken time out to create this webpage to talk about some things that are highly important to me with the goal to simply enlighten my readers and hopefully create positive change within the community.
Some things you might like to know about me: I was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. Growing up on the “wrong side of the tracks” as some people might say. However, I’ve always been quiet and too myself as a child and even into adulthood. I enjoy things such as baking, reading, and as you could probably tell from the fact that I have created a blog: writing.
Growing up as a black girl in a single-parent home, and not much money I may add, you could say I have seen some things and experienced different forms of oppression because of societal norms. That’s why I created this to talk about not only the personal issue but also a nationwide issue as well: poverty.
More specifically, I would like to talk about the overwhelming amount of homelessness in Birmingham.“
Living in a capitalist country, the top one percent are often untouchable. I say this through the perspective that immensely wealthy people don’t pay taxes, and if they do donate, it’s not for something to better their own immediate community.
Like what must go up must come down, if there is darkness there is light, and where there is rich–we have the poor. However, in America, the financially able to have the mindset that there must be people at the bottom to serve the people at the top. Therefore, with this system in place there will always be poor people.
It is important to help others in the community because one never knows when they’ll be in a predicament themselves and need help. This is not being said to suddenly up and change the rules of capitalism, it’s not possible to just overthrow hierarchy in mere days or weeks. However, on a local level, one can do things to help better their community and the quality of people’s lives around them.
